2020 Volkswagen T-Roc Diesel Release Date
2019 promises to be a very important year for the Volkswagen brand. If 2020 is the frontier to start talking, seriously, about electricity, next year will see the arrival, in the last quarter or so, of the new Golf, now in its eighth generation. On the other hand, if we talk about SUVs, the last news waiting for spring is and it is the T-Cross but the machine that makes the volumes, as they say in the marketing departments, is the T-Roc.
2020 VW T-Roc Redesign & Changes
We do not find out today, and we had already highlighted it in our preview test during the international presence, which hides its very successful design behind the success of the German crossover. The men of the Volkswagen-style center pushed the discourse on uniqueness, creating a vehicle with unmistakable design, so as not to take away “space” from the more voluminous Tiguan and Touareg who pursued a different path, especially the second.
The platform is always the MQB but the body above has been studied starting from a blank sheet, with the precise objective of creating dynamic shapes that could appeal to the broader target audience. Recall that the car is 4.23 meters long (-25.2 centimeters compared to the Tiguan) while the wheelbase is 2.59 meters long. The luminous signature is another strong point of the T-Roc and varies depending on the layout. The StyleIt comes standard with LED taillights (daytime running lights on request for the front), front fog lights, 17 “wheels while inside the 8” Composition Media screen, the Connectivity Pack (2 USB and Bluetooth sockets) ), the multifunction steering wheel, the electronic handbrake, and the central front armrest.
The Advanced variant, the top of the range, is completed with double LED headlamps on both sides (with the darkening of the rear ones and the front ones that also act as direction indicators), the Climatronic, the Active Info Display and the rims from 18 “(from 17” for 1.0 petrol).
In addition, chromed fascia, additional light effects designed by the edges of the roof, a roofline that lowers to the rear in typical coupe style, strong rear uprights and two-tone paint make the T-Roc appear lower than it really is (1, 57 meters).
2020 Volkswagen T-Roc Diesel Interior & Equipment
The interiors speak technology with the new generation Active Info Display (fully digital instrumentation). The infotainment systems, equipped with an 8 “display, corresponding to the latest state of the art. Infotainment systems can then be expanded with App-Connect (which integrates onboard Apple CarPlay and Google’s Android Auto).
For the T-Roc Advanced, the Security & Service services are also standard, offering assistance in the most desperate situations. Among the main functions are services such as Distress call, Automatic emergency call and Call in case of breakdown. As far as space is concerned, the lengthening of the step has allowed improving the sessions.
Driver and passengers enjoy a high seating position, measuring at least 572mm from the ground on the front seats and 618mm on the rear seats. In a five-seater configuration, the luggage compartment capacity up to the upper edge of the rear seat backrest is 445 liters, which increases to 1,290 liters by lowering the rear seatbacks in the 40/60 module.
In the dashboard, instruments and infotainment system are placed in a continuous decorative molding that develops from left to right along its entire length. Depending on the equipment, this application is painted in a dark color or in a contrasting color that incorporates the motif of the seats.
Depending on the set-up, the colored inserts are also present on the door panels.
New Volkswagen T-Roc Engine – 1.6 TDi 115 Horsepower
The 1.6 TDI, certainly not an absolute novelty within the Volkswagen range, from the summer equips one of the two T-Roc Diesel available in the list. It is a four-cylinder capable of delivering 115 hp and 250 Nm of maximum torque in a range between 1,750 and 3,200 rpm. The engine is not yet available at the DSG automatic transmission but only at the six-speed manual.
The performances speak of a 0-100 km / h covered in 10.9 seconds and a top speed of 187 km / h. As for consumption, these are the data that Volkswagen declares for its 2020 VW T-Roc Diesel in the entry version approved WLTP (urban: 5.0 l / 100 km, extra urban: 4.5 l / 100 km and mixed: 4.4 l / 100 km). Thinking of the future, and of the mists that light up the fate of diesel engines, this engine is equipped as standard with the SCR catalytic converter and already complies with the Euro 6d-TEMP emissions regulations.
It is not clear why Volkswagen wanted to wait for the beauty of over a semester to equip its crossover, especially in a very happy period for the segment, of an “accessible” diesel unit. Not that the 2.0 TDI 150 hp is not, anzia is the status symbol of the diesel world according to Volkswagen and continues to be despite the whole scandal of Dieselgate. The 1.6 TDI of the T-Roc Diesel was, however, necessary to complete the range and that’s why we tried to understand if now the T-Roc can be said completely.
The first impression is inclined to respond for the yes, thanks to the good torque of 250 Nm that pushes well to the middle regimes and allows a reasonable extension. One can also criticize the acceleration that is certainly not burning, indeed. You can fully enjoy its malleability, precisely, exceeded the threshold of 2,000 where the engine, being in full torque, behaves very well and also casually addresses the hills around Verona where our first contact took place.
Below this “threshold”, it is better to act on the precise six-speed manual transmission while on the highway the sixth is the ideal gear to save on consumption and leave everything to technology. Let’s just say that a few more horses would not hurt, at the cost of getting too close, and therefore stealing market, to the more powerful 2.0 TDI with 150 hp that can also count on four-wheel drive. The 2020 VW T-Roc Diesel, and petrol can count on a very complete ADAS endowment.
This is the standard equipment right from the entry version: ACC adaptive cruise control, multiple collision braking, active assistance for Lane Assist lane maintenance and the front assist perimeter control system with pedestrian recognition and City emergency braking function. Furthermore, the driver’s fatigue detection system is always provided. In addition to what previously listed, the SUV can be equipped, on request, with ten additional assistance systems.
