2020 Suzuki Vitara Review: great rival for the Jeep Rengade
Suzuki has renewed the Vitara, 2020 Suzuki Vitara with a facelift that has put in that competitive segment that is the small SUV to a car that now has a better aesthetic, with a better finished interior, with more driving aids and a new engine, direct to fight against cars like the SEAT Arona , the Peugeot 2008 or the Jeep Renegade , it is said soon, its main attraction? It is willing to become the most tempting car for those looking for an alternative with all-wheel drive. Time to thoroughly know all the details of the new Suzuki Vitara.
2020 Suzuki Vitara Facelift
Launch at the 2014 Paris Motor Show the fourth generation of the Suzuki Vitara now receives a facelift that is already available in the Suzuki dealers and that proposes a slightly renewed look thanks to a new grille, new chromed inserts, new colors, and tires and LED rear optics that become the most aesthetic appeal of this Suzuki Vitara 2019.
In its inside a softer material on the dashboard, also a new screen instrumentation 4.2 inches now appears and there is a new analog clock on the dashboard while what attendees to driving refers elements as the system are added of signal recognition, the warning system for involuntary lane change or the fatigue detector, leaving us with a good list of security systems.
Last, but obviously not least, the range has been revised to add a new gasoline engine , a 1.0 turbo engine of 111 hp that adds to the already known engine 1.4, also turbo, 140 hp , the engine we have had the opportunity to try during this first contact with the face wash of the Suzuki Vitara, a test that produces shortly after the launch of the Suzuki Jimny and that highlights the renewed range of products that Suzuki currently offers, with the Suzuki Swift and Suzuki Swift Sport and with the Suzuki Ignis also recently renewed.
I must say that the Suzuki Vitara seems to me, within its segment, an attractive option, as it seems to me also the Jeep Renegade and that the aesthetic changes of its frontal and the new later optics have seated it quite well. You see a robust SUV and it gains a lot if we go to the brightest colors, like the new “mustard yellow” color available.
As far as measurements are concerned, the Suzuki Vitara has a length of 4,175 mm, a width of 1,775 mm and a height of 1,610 mm, with a wheelbase of 2,500 mm. Its trunk has a good load capacity, with 375 liters, with a double bottom and a floor that is located flush with the loading mouth. In its lightest version, the 2020 Suzuki Vitara has a weight of 1,085 kg, 1,220 kg in its heavier version.
2020 Suzuki Vitara Interior
Suzuki has improved the perceived quality inside but there are rivals that offer a better finish. n its inside, indeed, we find an improvement in perceived quality with the new soft-touch dashboard, plus there is also a new 4.2 – inch display instrumentation. In general, we find a correct interior although the design and its finish is improbable, with abundant hard surfaces and a central console that is perceived somewhat dated.
Its multimedia system, with a 7-inch screen, offers us a simple interface and with a certain delay in some actions, is far behind the multimedia system of cars such as the SEAT Arona or the Peugeot 2008. In its favor, we must mention the connectivity with the smartphone.
No doubt the interior of the Suzuki Vitara seems to me as his main Achilles heel and although as mentioned is correct in general it is easy to find alternatives in the segment with a more careful design, with a superior technological endowment, with better materials, superior adjustments or a higher perceived quality and although Suzuki has equipped the Vitara with a softer dashboard there is still a distance to save with much of the competition, with the usual references of the segment.
2020 Suzuki Vitara Performance
As far as livability concerns the Suzuki Grand Vitara too good with good space in the rear side seats, but what about your dynamics?
Suzuki has not mentioned changes in the set-up of the 2020 Suzuki Vitara although as we mentioned there is a new 111 hp petrol engine available. For this occasion, for this first contact, we had the opportunity to test the 1.4 Boosterjet engine of 140 hp, a turbocharged and 4-cylinder gasoline engine that in addition to putting at our disposal that 140 hp delivered a torque of 220 Nm available between 1,500 and 4,000 rpm.
We have tried it with a manual transmission and with the AllGrip all-wheel drive, an intelligent all-wheel drive that, through a series of driving modes, even allows us to “block” the traction distribution by 50-50.
The dynamics of the Suzuki Vitara is one of the three main virtues of this car. The other two? Its design and the possibility of having total traction in the B-SUV segment at a competitive price, but why is its behavior one of its advantages in the segment?
It is true that the Suzuki Vitara has some soft suspensions that make the car accused of certain rocking but nevertheless we do not find ourselves at any moment with a bad inertia, on the contrary, the initial swing follows the precise trajectory that we have indicated with the steering wheel, with an address that could be a bit harder but that is totally logical in everyday use.
I was very pleasantly surprised by the behavior of the Suzuki Vitara’s chassis, with a good turnaround despite the aforementioned balancing. Its traction also acts very well on firm wet, helping us to maintain the indicated route and that relatively soft suspension also gives it a good quality of rolling on the highway, where we find certain aerodynamic noises at the height of the rear-view mirrors.
We are therefore before a crossover that “treads” very well and not only on asphalt. That suspension is quite absorbing outside the road where the Suzuki Vitara shines with the ability of its total traction. For the presentation, Suzuki prepared us an off-road circuit in which the Vitara went very well stopped, with a good capacity of ascent, with a good level of traction, able to overcome generous obstacles without touching their low.
The 2020 Suzuki Vitara is the best option for those in the segment B SUV looking for an alternative with which to face usually the odd road, areas of abundant mud, rural excursions with dirt tracks and trips (or daily driving) in snow areas.
For those looking for an option with greater capabilities outside the asphalt you do not have to go far and Suzuki offers us an excellent option with the Suzuki Jimny that, as you know, won us in the first contact, a first contact I recommend you read, “” and that left us with a Suzuki Jimny with spectacular off-road capabilities, with a very attractive design, but with a roll off the asphalt very conditioned by its vocation of authentic off-road. The Suzuki Vitara achieves a great balance between an effective car off the asphalt and a comfortable crossover on the road, with a good turnaround on the curve, to drive every day.
2020 Suzuki Vitara Engine Specs & Power
I have talked about the response of its chassis but I must also praise a 140 hp 1.4 Boosterjet engine that is quite energetic and alive in its reactions, with a good feeling of thrust at low speed and very capable in overtaking and incorporations. I really liked the set of engine and chassis of this Suzuki Vitara and also we must also praise the touch of the 6-speed manual transmission, hard transitions, and precise travels.
Therefore, by way of conclusion, we must bear in mind that the new Suzuki Vitara has a more attractive face now and is postulated as a good choice in the segment of the B-SUV, able to offer a good behavior outside of the asphalt thanks to its total traction , a rarity in the B segment in this price range and with a very good dynamics on the road , both for its passage through the curve and flattening by motorway, with a comfortable suspension well accompanied by a chassis and a traction capacity that makes the cargo in there where we ask it to go.
2020 Suzuki Vitara Price
The range of the Suzuki Vitara starts at 18,540 euros from the version with the petrol engine of 111 hp, the more modest finish, the GL and traction to a single axis and culminates in a Suzuki Vitara with the 1.4 engine of 140 HP , with the GLX finish, all-wheel drive and automatic transmission that starts from 27,790 euros although in both cases you have to subtract the 1,300 euros discount currently offered by Suzuki.
If we go to a car like the one we have tried, with manual transmission, 140 HP, total traction and the highest finish we will be talking about an outlay of 25,690 euros, 24,390 euros with discounts and here we have a serious dilemma and that is that for this price we can already access an SUV of a C segment with more than correct equipment, maybe not with all-wheel drive but with better dynamics and a more spacious and better-resolved interior.
Regarding the list of equipment we must bear in mind that with the level of finish tested, the highest, the GLX, we have 17-inch alloy wheels, LED headlight, button start system, automatic climate control, multimedia system with touch screen, rearview camera, adaptive cruise control, heated front seats, door panels with suede inserts, clock on the dashboard, a mixed upholstery with leather inserts, front and rear parking sensors and all attendees driving, with the emergency braking system, the fatigue alert, the signal recognition system, the blind spot detection system, the warning for subsequent traffic.
If you are thinking about buying a car like the Suzuki Vitara. there are several other options such as like the KIA Stonic, like the SEAT Arona or the Ford Ecosport. The most direct rival for the 2020 Suzuki Vitara is the Jeep Renegade although if we want it with all-wheel drive it is substantially more expensive, surpassing even the 35,000 euros.
