2020 Peugeot 508 GT Review | Arrived on the market a few months ago, the Peugeot 508 immediately returned to being the flagship product of Leone , the benchmark of the French range, both for its contents and for its design, the bearer of the stylistic features of the new French course, as we have seen on the very recent Peugeot 208 .
After trying the Diesel version, now it’s the most powerful, equipped with the 225 PureTech 1.6GT version. Here’s how it is and how the French D-segment sedan looks.

The first revolution the new Peugeot 508 takes it through the forms, especially if compared with the past. 1.40 meters high, 4.75 m long and 1.85 wide, the 2020 Peugeot 508 GT offers an almost fastback style, with a long bonnet and a rear that goes down just like a coupe.
On the French sedan, there is no lack of style or personality, and this is mainly due to the LED signatures. In front of it, there are LED daytime running lights that also act as direction indicators, while at the rear there is a shiny black horizontal band that incorporates three-dimensional rear lights at the ends, which are also full LED and always on.
In addition to the headlights that dictate a well-defined design, the Peugeot 508 GT shows an athletic body, a Cx of 0.26 and a well-proportioned body. Not just the future on the 508, but also some reminder of the glories of the past, as for the front section, where the Lion is at the center of the three-dimensional grille, while the nomenclature of the model is on the bonnet, just as it happened just over 50 years ago on the 504.
The sober, yet sporty, dark gray perfectly matches the 19 ”Augusta alloy wheels. Everything is connected with a noteworthy interior, thanks to the choice (optional) of red leather upholstery and the rest of the Mistral environment, black with Gray Oak oak inserts.

Entering the cockpit of the 2020 Peugeot 508 GT, we note that the spaces are not very large since everything is filled with inserts and various accessories, all reaching out towards the occupants. With the electrically adjustable seats, you will soon find the position and the large central tunnel accompanies our hand towards the automatic gearshift lever. The perceived quality is remarkable, the leather, the metals and the wood of the inserts are all pleasing to the touch and to the sight, while at the same time, they marry with so much technology. This consists of two screens: the customizable 12.3-inch i-cockpit digital instrumentation and the 10-inch infotainment screen(8 “standard). Both the displays and the relative systems, we have learned to know them well on 3008, 5008 and DS 7 Crossback, noting fine workmanship. Below the infotainment screen, the successful piano keys, the PSA-style gear lever, and a nice glove compartment are confirmed.
A small drawback caused by the racy design is the space for the rear passengers. Those who are taller than 1.80 may complain of little space for the head, due to the much-appreciated roof that goes down to the rear. On the other hand, the trunk, with its wide tailgate, offers a capacity starting from 487 liters.

Without a doubt, Diesel is still preferred for D-segment sedans, there is no shortage, however, of an offer made of petrol engines, where the more powerful and sporty 1.6 225 turbo PureTech stands out, combined with the automatic gearbox. 8 reports.
This engine delivers 300 Nm of torque, for acceleration from 0 to 100 km / h in 7.3 seconds and a top speed of 250 km/h. Eco, Comfort, Normal and Sport are the canonical driving modes that we also find on the 2020 Peugeot 508 GT, which can be operated using the appropriate button on the central tunnel.
With the well-known EMP2 platform supporting the 508 powertrains, the sedan has proved, from the first moments, to be pretty snappy, but not exaggerated. The sound that accompanies the accelerations is actually quite subdued, even if the amplification of the speakers in Sport mode makes it seem more sporty. For most of the guide, though, and fortunately perhaps, silence reigns, due to the excellent soundproofing of the passenger compartment.
The power of the car, in fact, although it is more than appreciable also an extension, does not make the 508 a true sports car and therefore comfort is welcome, which certainly is not lacking even on this version. What makes the difference, on the other hand, is the suspension layout, with the multi-link rear arms in addition to the electronic control of the latter (present as standard on the GT), which makes it possible to modify road behavior in a more concrete manner based on driving mode. The result is a fairly sporting but always tourist-like structure, almost non-existent understeer, and a rather neutral attitude, both at entry and exit, also thanks to the good weight of around 1,500 kg.
The small i-cockpit steering wheel has led many to take sides in favor and many against. I am one of those who appreciate the small diameter and the response of the steering to the inputs, but with the conditional to set the steering wheel slightly higher than recommended in Peugeot, otherwise slightly lesser visibility of the instrumentation. Overall, however, it is objective that the steering is well calibrated, even when the gait is forced.
The EAT8 gearbox performs well in all situations, with the paddles on the steering wheel that can accommodate even a sportier ride. The only flaw, which still does not allow it to be among the best automatics on the market, is the intuitiveness in some town changed and the speed of the grafts using palettes.
Also in terms of technology Lion’s flagship is not unprepared, in fact, it offers as standard on all the fittings emergency braking, the signal of the involuntary crossing of the road and the speed limit signal. As additional packages, Active Blind Corner Assist systems, driver attention recognition, automatic high beams, Extended Traffic Sing Recognition, and Adaptive Cruise Control ACC30 are added, to which is added the Stop & go and LPA functionality which represents the first approach to autonomous driving.
In the end, if you do not feel the need for this push which is still very pleasant, but not essential, it is better to opt for less powerful engines and therefore even more parking, because, despite the average consumption of 5,7 l/ declared 100 km, with the 2020 Peugeot 508 GT it is difficult to stay below 8 l/100 km.
Price and competitors
The 2020 Peugeot 508 GT starts from the price of $50,833, offers practically everything you need as standard, including the EAT 8 8-speed automatic transmission.
At $785 more there is the metallic gray and at $1683 the interior in red Sellier leather with Mistral and Aikinite stitching. The Night Vision ($1122), 19-inch Augusta wheels ($673) and natural wood inserts ($168) make the price rise further. Thus we reach the final price of around $55,000, remembering, however, that we are talking about the top of the range version, to which we can add very little.
At the level of competitors, the Peugeot 508 GT is positioned halfway between the “normal” and the premium, even if this version tends more towards the second bank, thus colliding with the tops Alfa Romeo Giulia , Audi A4, BMW 3 Series , Mercedes C-Class, but also Volkswagen Passat, Ford Mondeo and other protagonists of the segment.
