2020 Ford Focus ST EcoBoost 2.3 Review
After the arrival of the new Ford Focus in the summer of 2018, the 2020 Ford Focus ST was on its way (waiting for the most extreme RS, on which for now everything is silent.) Among the C-segment hot hatch, Hyundai i30 N and Renault Megane RS on all, with which it shares the power of the 2.3 petrol, here is a new arrival, so as to continue a winning tradition.
2020 Ford Focus ST Redesign & Changes
The 2020 Ford Focus ST is recognizable on the outside, compared to the Focus ST-Line, for the increased air intakes, the 19 “wheels, on which are mounted Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires, the double exhaust, and the double terminal to understand that here it is already serious.
Inside Recaro seats and, as on the Fiesta ST we tested, we think of the red “ST” badge on the lower part of the steering wheel, to remind the driver that the horses under the bonnet are many. Two engines of the 2020 Ford Focus ST, to satisfy all tastes: starting from 190 hp and 400 Nm of torque of the new 2.0 EcoBlue, while fans will be pleased to know that the 2.3 EcoBoost will be able to reach 280 hp, at the level of the most quoted competitors.
For both engines of the New Focus ST, a six-speed manual transmission or a seven-speed automatic transmission. The Blue Oval, therefore, renounces the eight-speed automatic already mounted on the other versions of Ford Focus: the official justification is “greater sportiness”.
For the 2.3 EcoBoost, equipped with a turbine, Ford has instead thought of a technology able to reduce turbo lag: it derives directly from the GT supercar and improves the delivery, keeping the butterfly “active” when the rider lifts the foot in the corners.
Improved delivery and, at the same time, traction: remains ahead but has been optimized thanks to an electronic differential that makes the torque work better on individual wheels, based on data processed by the control unit. Behind the 19 “wheels, oversized brake discs at 330 mm for the front axle and 302 for the rear.
For those who choose the 280 hp 2.3 EcoBoost, Ford has already provided a further Performance Pack, with red calipers and Track mode with Launch Control, as on Fiesta ST. The official price list is still unknown.
